Successful BC Interior Chapter Conference on September 5

The BC Interior Chapter of the Greater Vancouver Section of ITE was back in action after a five year hiatus. The Chapter kicked off the fall season with a mini-conference held at the University of British Columbia Okanagan's (UBCO) campus in Kelowna. This half day session featured a series of exciting presentations regarding various local transportation initiatives and programs being undertaken in BC and within the Interior region. Presentation topics included:
  • BC Ministry of Transportation's Climate Action Program
  • Recent Transportation Projects Kamloops
  • Central Okanagan Smart Transit Plan
  • City of Vernon OCP Update
The event was well attended by 43 public and private sector professionals, including nine UBCO students. Among the attendees were several special guests. Showing their support for the Chapter were Alf Guebert (International President of ITE) Mike Skene, (Past President of CITE), Bruce Nelligan (Southern Alberta Section of ITE President), and Thomas Kwan (Greater Vancouver Section of ITE President).

Following the presentations, a panel discussion was held to highlight the benefits of involvement with ITE and to provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions to the assembled guests. With the support of those in attendance, an Annual General Meeting was held to re-establish the BC Interior Chapter. Finally, the following individuals were elected to the new Chapter Executive:

President: Gord Lovegrove
Treasurer: Linda Irwin
Secretary: Steve Power
Members at Large: James Donnelly
Erin Felker
Kathryn Weicker
Past President: Mike Baker
Student Representatives: Elham Boozarjomehri
Stefan Vali

The Chapter would like to thank all attendees and guests for their support, and they look forward to seeing everyone at the next event! If you would like more information, please feel free to contact the Executive at cite.bcinteriorchapter@gmail.com.
