Bill Curtis Award - 2001

South Surrey Interchange

The South Surrey Interchange on Highway 99 was recognized for a number of firsts in many different categories. One first was being the first application of the “design-build-develop” project model, in which the cost is offset by the sale of crown land. It was also one of the first P3 (public-private partnership) projects in the province. On the design front, it incorporated a unique diamond design for land efficiency, and included a fish passageway and feeding pond. Benefits for locals include decreased peak congestion and better access to the new Morgan Heights shopping centre in one of the highest-growth areas in the region.
